At Dunedin South Medical Centre, you can usually see your own family doctor within a day or two. We believe that continuity of care is important, particularly for people who have chronic health issues or complex needs. You don’t want to have to explain everything all over again to a new doctor every time you go! You are almost always able to see a doctor on the day that you call if you have an urgent need.

We’ve been here in South Dunedin for 60 years and we’ve always kept our fees for our patients as low as we can. South Dunedin is densely populated and is one of the most socioeconomically deprived urban areas in the country. Many of the people who live here are older, or have disabilities, or are recent arrivals to New Zealand. We are proud to be a Cornerstone Accredited teaching practice for medical and nursing students.

Test Results

If you have had blood tests or other diagnostic screening, we will not call you unless there is any result of note. If the results require any further action a nurse or your doctor will contact you. You can always phone our nurses who can check on results for you, or look on the patient portal, Manage My Health, if you are registered on this service.

Online Patient Portal – Manage My Health

***The Online Patient Portal will no longer allow you to book appointments until further notice as we cut back to essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, you can still request repeat prescriptions, check lab results and update your contact details. Please minimise the number of messages sent directly to your doctor as we are trying to manage their workload during this time.***

This allows you to request repeat prescriptions and book appointments online using either the website or the smartphone app. You can also check lab results, update your contact details and send secure messages to your doctor. Please ask the receptionists if you would like to sign up.

Your Contact Details

Please let us know if your contact details change. We also need an emergency contact person (a family member or friend) in case we are unable to contact you.

We expect payment at the time of your visit, otherwise additional fees will be charged. We are happy to accept small regular automatic payments. Use these details to pay online:

Account name: Dunedin South Medical Centre
Reference: Your name
Account number: 06-0911-0078001-00
Code: Your chart number (ask reception)

We have reminder recalls for immunisations, cervical smears, diabetic reviews, B12 injections, flu vaccinations, Depo Provera injections, and cardiovascular checks. We will send you a letter or text when your next recall is due. If you choose another service provider (e.g. Family Planning for smears), let us know and we can note this in your records.

Skin Clinic – Liquid Nitrogen

***The Skin Clinic – Liquid Nitrogen will not be offered from April until further notice as we cut back to essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic.***

These are held fortnightly on Tuesdays. If you have a skin lesion you would like removed you need to see your doctor first (to check the lesion can be treated this way) and then the nurses are able to apply the liquid nitrogen as required.
